StormCenter Communications, a provider of real-time critical weather information for major television news stations was in need of a better way to manage, on an hourly basis, the large volume of content for the growing number of Web sites delivered as an On-Demand service for their customers.
In providing detailed content about watersheds, forests, and coasts, StormCenter's Envirocast Web contains information such as real-time water quality results, real-time stream flow, ground water analysis, coastal observations, and semi-monthly environmental news stories related to a specific watershed.
The Envirocast Web sites were using disparate technologies and disjointed data silos requiring a team of StormCenter technology personnel to maintain their real-time status. Some of the sites needed to share the same content under a different branded look and feel and others needed independent content. Due to these complex requirements and the need to deliver targeted sites in a timely fashion - StormCenter required a better paradigm.
StormCenter contacted Refresh Software with the following challenge: help us manage multiple Web properties with similar yet disparate content, code, and styles under the realm of a single management application that can be used by non-technical internal and external staff members.
In true Refresh fashion, our team mobilized and delivered SR2 for StormCenter's core content management requirements along with Refresh's "Content Shadowing" publishing features. Content Shadowing leverages SR2's central content repository to facilitate a single web publishing application to deliver content to multiple sub-applications for content targeting and personalization.
Through SR2's metadata, taxonomy, and Content Shadowing features, StormCenter enjoys the benefits of a large-scale distributed web applications system but with a small technological footprint - and without the overhead or complex management of a large-scale system. Through the leverage of SR2's central Content Repository, StormCenter was able to invest and reinvest in other critical technology projects.
