WebCT has hundreds of thousands of users in thousands of colleges and universities in 70 countries who rely on the WebCT User Community Web site. The IT infrastructure demand is enormous and WebCT lives and breathes by their online educational system - it must be up 100% of the time - no exceptions!
WebCT had developed a homegrown Content Management System but the time commitment and cost involved in development and training had taken its toll. Organizations will typically undertake homegrown development efforts because they can not find an appropriate solution in terms of cost, scale, usability, openness, etc.
WebCT decided once again that it was time to look into the market at Content Management Systems being offered today. After reviewing the solutions (and being resuscitated from "sticker shock"), WebCT decided it was time to really focus on fixing the Core problem: give their users an easy-to-use UI so they could self-service content creation and management requests. Of course, a streamlined workflow and versioning system would be required as well.
So, where could WebCT find such a product which met the following criteria: usability, enormous scalability, ease of implementation, excellent support, openness, and flexibility? SR2 of course. SR2 not only offered all of the above but it went further in specific areas such as having a de-coupled architecture, flexible Asset Type definitions, and a J2EE core - not to mention Refresh's extensive enterprise-level domain expertise.
